When you release a song, if you have written it yourself and are unsigned you would usually own both the neighbouring rights and the publishing rights.
Publishing rights go to whoever has written your song, and neighbouring rights go to whoever owns the recordings. If you’ve signed to a deal record labels usually own neighbouring rights, but if you are an independent artist you will own them yourself.
